Around the 4th of July I always see a dessert in magazines, etc. called Flag Cake. It always looks so yummy!
I didn't get all fancy with mine in making a flag design out of fruit...but it was yummy anyway! Tim's parents often bring me angel food cake mixes after they visit the Amish area. I had a couple of those in the freezer and also a bunch of Cool Whip that I got for free last week at Giant Eagle and I also had some strawberries and blueberries on hand (these are both on sale at Aldi's this week for really cheap!).
I baked the angel food cake (you could use a premade/store bought one too!). Once it cooled I cut it in half. I wrapped one half up to eat plain later. The other half I tore up into small pieces and put in the bottom of an 8x8 dish. I then spread most of an 8 oz. Cool Whip over the angel food cake pieces. I put blueberries (1/2 of a small container) and 16 oz. of cut up strawberries on top of that. I pressed it all down as much as I could so that everything would fit in the dish. I then spread another 8 oz. container of Cool Whip over the top. YUM!!!
