Swiss Steak

I have not made this recipe in SO long...the main reason being I have a thing about not paying more than $2.00 for a pound of meat (I make some exceptions but not often). I had not seen round steak go on sale in ages for less than $2.00. I saw that Giant Eagle had it for $1.97/# (ends Wednesday) so I bought enough to make two batches of this recipe.

Swiss Steak
3/4 c. flour
1 t. pepper
1/4 t. salt
2 - 2 1/2 # boneless round steak
4 T. butter or margarine
1 can cream of mushroom soup
1 1/3 c. water
1/2 c. chopped onion
1 garlic clove, minced
2 bouillon cubes (or 2 t. bouillon granules)
1 small can sliced mushrooms, drained

Combine flour, salt & pepper in Ziploc bag or in a shallow bowl. Cut steak into 6 pieces. Coat each piece with the flour mixture. In a skillet brown steak in butter/margarine. Place steak in crockpot. Combine remaining ingredients and pour over steak. Cover and cook on low for 8-9 hours or until the meat is tender.

I make mashed potatoes to serve with this. It is so YUMMY!

*If there is a lot of fat on the edges of the steak, I usually try to cut it off.

*Most of my mornings require me to be out the door by 8:40 so I don't really have time to prepare the meat. To make life a little easier, I followed all of the steps above but rather than putting it all in a crockpot, put it all in a Ziploc bag and froze it. When I am ready to cook this meal, I will remove it from the freezer, thaw and will be able to dump it in my crockpot and cook it as directed above.
